Every material in The Sheep Shed collection was chosen carefully. British wool for warmth, texture and natural odour resistance. Veg-tanned cowhide, Italian, French or British, chosen for each piece rather than to a single origin, because it ages into something better rather than wearing out. Solid brass because it holds its structure and its finish under load. None of it was chosen for convenience.
British wool, graded and spun in Yorkshire, and laid into rope in Britain. It arrives here as finished rope and braid, and is then woven entirely by hand. Naturally odour resistant, breathable and warm. The weave distributes pressure evenly across the collar, kinder on the neck than a single-strand design and more comfortable on long walks. Ages beautifully.
Veg-tanned cowhide, Italian, French or British, chosen for each piece rather than to a single origin, then cut, detailed and finished by hand. It is the strap the wool is woven around, and it is the part that ages: it takes on a patina with every walk rather than wearing out.
The Sheep Shed meets performance. The same hand-woven British wool paired with a fully waterproof BioThane® strap: wipe-clean, and built for dogs who live active lives without compromising on craft. The wool itself is untreated, so it will felt a little with wear, which tightens the weave. For the dog who works, walks in mud, or simply refuses to stay clean.

The Sheep Shed was designed to be Green Dog's most considered piece. Not because it uses more materials but because it uses better ones, and takes longer to make. The wool weave alone requires a technique distinct from anything else in the workshop. The veg-tanned cowhide is cut, detailed and finished to a standard most manufacturers do not attempt. Every Sheep Shed piece is made by hand in Britain. There is no production line, no volume target. There is just the work and care.
British wool dog collars and leads. The collars are woven by hand. The leads are hand-spliced and then whipped over with 1mm hemp cord. Naturally soft, made from a fibre this country produces far more of than it uses, and unlike anything made at scale.
The Sheep Shed collection uses British wool (Brampton and Dingley in the woven collars, Brampton and Swaledale in the rope leads), carrying the natural texture and variation of the material. Finished with leather straps, brass buckles and solid hardware. No two pieces are identical, because no handmade thing ever is.

No two wool pieces come out identical, but the fit is not left to chance. If it does not sit right when it arrives, tell me and I will adjust or remake it, and I will not charge you for the making. Where I got the size wrong I pay the postage both ways. Where the measurement turned out not to suit your dog, the postage is yours. What is the Sheep Shed collection?
The Sheep Shed is my range of dog collars and leads made from British wool. I launched it in April 2025 after a year of testing wool sources, weaving methods and hardware combinations. Every piece is handmade to order in Britain.
Which British wools does Green Dog use?
Three: Brampton, Dingley and Swaledale. Brampton is the charcoal grey and Dingley the ecru, both undyed. They are not sheep breeds or places. Swaledale is different: it is a genuine native Yorkshire breed. The woven collars come in Brampton and Dingley across Classic, Mini and Sighthound variants, and the rope leads come in Brampton and Swaledale.
Are British wool dog collars itchy for sensitive dogs?
Wool is soft and odour-resistant and retains some natural lanolin, and the woven structure used in the Sheep Shed range is closer in feel to a knitted jumper than to coarse rope. Dogs with sensitive skin tend to do well in wool because there is no plastic coating and no synthetic chemistry against the skin.
How do I choose a wool collar size?
The Classic fits most breeds and uses a three-row trilobite weave, 34mm of wool over a 19mm strap. The Mini uses a two-row fishtail weave, 20mm of wool over a 16mm leather or 16mm BioThane strap, for small breeds. The Sighthound version uses a four-row 43mm wool weave for whippets, lurchers, greyhounds and Italian greyhounds. Add 2 to 3cm to your measurement for standard, 2cm for mini.
Why British wool specifically?
British wool is one of the most under-used natural fibres in the UK. Most fleeces are sold for next to nothing or burned because the global market does not value them. Using British wool for dog collars is a small piece of a bigger argument for keeping the fleece market alive. I don't buy fleece: I buy finished wool rope and braid. It is British wool, graded and spun in Yorkshire, and laid into rope in Britain.
How are the wool leads put together?
The 14mm wool rope is hand-spliced. The rope is opened up and the strands are tucked back through each other, so the join carries the load through the rope rather than through a glued or crimped fitting. The splice is then whipped over by hand with 1mm hemp cord, which holds it down and takes the wear. It is slow, unglamorous work and it is the part of the range I am most attached to.
