A British wool dog collar collection, designed for Daylesford Farm and made by hand in Oxford. It launched in store in September 2026.
The collection was designed by the Daylesford home team and me, and signed off by Lady Bamford. That is worth saying plainly, because it is not the Green Dog retail range moved onto somebody else's shelf. The colourways, the leatherwork and the proportions were drawn for Daylesford. The pieces are made for Daylesford and sold there only.
Why Daylesford
Daylesford has farmed organically in the Cotswolds since 1977, works with the Soil Association, and has been a B Corp since 2023. They keep their own flock. They already make things from British wool and they already sell British-made things for dogs, so none of this involved persuading anybody that the fibre was worth the trouble. They were there first, and at a scale I am not.
That is the part worth crediting properly. A small maker can argue for British wool all day. It takes a business the size of Daylesford, putting British fleece on a shelf next to British food, to make the argument land with anyone who was not already listening. Backing a solo maker at the same time is a choice they did not have to make.
The collars
Hand-woven undyed British wool over a veg-tanned leather strap, with brass hardware. Cream is the Dingley wool with brown leather. Grey is the Brampton wool with black leather. The colour is the colour the sheep grew. British wool, graded and spun in Yorkshire and braided in Britain, then woven by hand in a garden studio in Oxford.
The Dingley Mini
Cream wool in a two-row fishtail weave, roughly 20mm wide, on a slim brown veg-tanned leather strap. The lightest collar in the collection, built for Miniature Dachshunds, Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers, Toy Poodles and the smaller terriers.
The Brampton Mini
The same two-row fishtail weave in grey wool, on a slim black veg-tanned leather strap. Charcoal reads darker on a small dog and shows less of a muddy walk than the cream does.
The Classic
The three-row weave, 34mm of wool over a 19mm leather strap. The collar the whole range was designed around, and the one most dogs take. In cream wool with brown leather, or grey wool with black.
The Sighthound
The wider four-row weave, 43mm across the centre, tapering towards the buckle. It spreads the pressure across a long neck rather than concentrating it, which is the whole point on a whippet, a lurcher, a greyhound or an Italian greyhound. In cream with brown leather, or grey with black.
The hands-free wool lead
An 8ft hands-free lead in 14mm British wool rope, in cream or grey, with brass hardware. Hand-spliced, so the join carries the load through the rope itself rather than through a glued or crimped fitting.
This lead has never been sold on this site. It was designed and made for Daylesford, and it is not a version of anything in the online range.
The Daylesford pieces are finished differently from the Green Dog retail range on purpose. They carry no tassel and no Green Dog brass disc. If you have seen one in the shop and then come looking for it here, that is why it is not on this site: it was made to be a Daylesford piece.
What is still made at Green Dog
The wool has not left Green Dog. It carries on in The Sheep Shed, on a strap that suits a wet British winter better than leather does:
- The Wool and BioThane hybrid collars, the same hand-woven cream and grey British wool on a waterproof wipe-clean strap, in fixed colourways or built to your own specification, from 8 to 26 inches
- Custom Brampton and Custom Dingley, where you pick the weave, the strap, the keeper and the finish on every piece of metal, and Custom Brampton Mini and Custom Dingley Mini for small breeds
- The classic wool leads. The Swaledale in cream and the Brampton in grey, 14mm British wool rope hand-spliced at 130cm, whipped over by hand with 1mm hemp cord and finished with a veg-tanned tab and solid brass
- The Hybrid rope leads, and the wool keyring tassels
Every one of those carries the 11mm Green Dog brass disc, stamped once with the logo, and the tassel on the leads. That is the retail range and it is unchanged.
Why British wool
British wool is one of the most under-used natural fibres in the country. Most fleeces are sold for next to nothing or burned, because the global market does not value them. Using it for dog collars is a small piece of a much bigger argument for keeping the fleece market alive.
I do not buy fleece. I buy finished wool rope and braid, British wool, graded and spun in Yorkshire and laid into rope in Britain, and I weave and splice it by hand.
