The Green Dog Workshop Service: clean, re-whip and restore your handmade collar or lead, whatever its age

The Workshop Service | Clean, Re-Whip and Restore Your Green Dog Piece

£24.00

Send me the piece back and I will make it good again. Not because it has failed, but because it has been worn, and a collar that has done three winters deserves better than the back of a drawer.

I made it, so I can remake it. The whipping comes off and goes back on by the same hand that put it there in the first place. Nobody who imports a finished collar can offer you this.

And it does not have to be one of mine. If your collar or lead was made by someone else from the materials I work with, send it and I will treat it exactly the same: rope, paracord, nano and micro cord, BioThane®, British wool, woven cotton, veg-tanned leather, solid brass and steel fittings. What I cannot help with is anything I cannot take apart and rebuild by hand, so fused webbing, printed nylon and plastic hardware are out. If you are not sure which you have, send me a photograph at hello@greendog.pet and I will tell you before you pay anything.

The Once Over

  • Deep clean, by hand
  • Every fitting checked, re-seated and polished where the metal allows it
  • Leather conditioned, where there is leather
  • Back to you tracked, in fresh packaging

The Re-Whip

  • Everything in the Once Over
  • Completely new binding, in colours of your choosing. Keep the ones it came with or change the piece entirely
  • Any worn hardware replaced
  • Back to you tracked, in fresh packaging

What this is not. If a fitting has failed inside twelve months on a piece I made, that is the hardware guarantee and it is free: do not buy this, just email me. If one of mine is worn out past twelve months I will still replace parts at cost plus postage, as I always have. This service is for a collar or lead that works perfectly well and simply wants bringing back to life.

How it works. Order the service, and I will email you the address and a note to put in the parcel. Tell me what you want doing and, for a re-whip, which colours. Turnaround is two to six working days from the day it lands with me. Return postage is included in the price.

Anything can be looked at. Greenwich Yarn, The Sheep Shed, Cotton Mill, paracord, BioThane®, leather, and pieces that were never mine. If you are not sure whether something is worth saving, send me a photograph first and I will tell you honestly. Sometimes the answer is that it is fine and you should keep walking the dog.

No discount on this, but your points still count. It is bespoke bench work, so the automatic offers running on the rest of the shop do not apply to it. Green Dog loyalty points do, because you earned those on the piece you are sending back to me.

Made and serviced by hand in Britain.

Delivery & Making Time

Turnaround: Two to six working days from the day your piece lands with me, the same window as a new order.

Getting it to me: Order the service and I will email you the address and a short note to put in the parcel. Send it however you like. I do not need the original packaging.

Getting it back: UK tracked post, in fresh packaging. Return postage is included in the price, so there is nothing more to pay.

Outside the UK: Email me at hello@greendog.pet before you send anything and I will work out the return postage first.

Customisation Options

The Once Over: No choices to make. It comes back as the same piece, clean and checked.

The Re-Whip: This is where you choose. New primary and accent binding in any colours I carry. Keep the ones it came with, or change the piece completely.

Hardware: Worn fittings are replaced as part of the Re-Whip. If you want a different finish, brass to nickel for instance, tell me and I will quote it before I start.

Not sure: Send me a photograph at hello@greendog.pet before you order and I will tell you what I would do with it.

Materials & Construction

Same materials as the original: Whatever your piece was made from is what goes back on it. Nano cord binding, PPM rope, paracord, BioThane, British wool, woven cotton, veg-tanned leather, solid brass.

Pieces I did not make: Welcome, provided they are built from those same materials. What I cannot work on is anything I cannot take apart and rebuild by hand, so fused webbing, printed nylon and plastic hardware are out.

The whipping: On a Re-Whip the old binding comes off completely and new cord is whipped on by hand, the same way it went on the first time.

Hardware: Cleaned, re-seated and polished where the metal allows it. Solid brass takes a polish. Plated and coated finishes are cleaned rather than polished, because polishing takes the finish off.

Leather: Cleaned and conditioned where there is leather, then left to dry naturally.

Sizing & Fitting

Nothing to measure: Your piece comes back the size it went out. This service restores a collar or lead, it does not change the fit.

If the size was never right: That is a different job and it is often free. Message me about a size exchange or an amendment instead of buying this.

Resizing while it is here: On some pieces I can change the size at the same time. Ask before you send it and I will tell you honestly whether it is worth doing.

Care & Durability

Between services: Rinse mud off with cool water and let it dry naturally, away from radiators. That is most of the work, and it is why some pieces never need this at all.

How often: Most pieces want nothing for the first year or two. A Once Over suits a collar that lives outdoors. A Re-Whip suits one where the binding has gone flat, faded or fluffy.

What restoring will not fix: Rope that has been chewed through, or a strap that has cracked all the way through, is a replacement rather than a restoration. I will tell you which it is before I start, and refund you if it is the wrong service.

The guarantee is separate: Hardware that fails inside twelve months is covered free, with postage. Do not buy this for that.

Safety & Usage Notes

Check it before you send it: If a piece is damaged rather than simply worn, stop using it now and send me a photograph. A collar or lead that is failing is not something to keep walking with while the post catches up.

Honest answers: If a piece is not worth restoring I will say so and refund you rather than take the money and hand back something I am not happy with.

This is not a repair for a failure: If a fitting has broken inside twelve months, that is the hardware guarantee and it costs nothing. Email hello@greendog.pet instead of ordering this.

FAQs

Does it have to be a Green Dog piece? No. If it is built from the materials I work with, I will treat it exactly like one of mine. Rope, paracord, nano and micro cord, BioThane, British wool, woven cotton, veg-tanned leather, solid brass and steel fittings.

What cannot be worked on? Anything I cannot take apart and rebuild by hand. Fused webbing, printed nylon and plastic hardware are out. Send a photograph to hello@greendog.pet if you are not sure and I will tell you before you pay anything.

How old is too old? There is no limit. A collar that has done five winters is exactly what this is for.

Which of your ranges does it cover? All of them. Greenwich Yarn, The Sheep Shed, The Cotton Mill, paracord, BioThane and leather.

I do not know which service I need. Send a photograph to hello@greendog.pet. Sometimes the answer is that it is fine and you should keep walking the dog.

Can I change the colours completely? Yes, on the Re-Whip. The rope stays as it is and the binding is what changes, and that changes the look of the piece more than you would expect.

Who pays the postage? You pay to send it to me. The return journey is included in the price.

How long will it take? Two to six working days from the day it arrives with me, then one to two working days in the post.
