Ordering & Shipping

7 questions

Custom and personalised pieces take 2–6 working days to craft before dispatch. This is how long it takes to make something properly — the rope is cut to your length, hardware is chosen for your specification, and everything is finished and checked by hand.

Some preset and batch-made pieces (like The Sheep Shed and Cotton Mill collections) may dispatch in 1–2 working days.

Once dispatched, UK delivery takes 1–2 working days. You will receive a tracking notification the moment your order ships.

Yes — we ship to the UK, EU, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, East Asia and beyond. Free shipping thresholds are:

  • EU (27 countries): free from £95
  • Canada: free from £120 — Standard tracked via Royal Mail, 7–14 working days after dispatch
  • USA: free from £175 — FedEx Priority only, 2–3 working days after dispatch
  • Australia & New Zealand: free from £135
  • East Asia (Japan & Singapore): free from £135

USA orders: US import duty of 10% on the declared order value is assessed by US Customs and collected by FedEx on delivery. This is separate from your shipping cost and is the recipient's responsibility.

Canada orders: Canadian GST (5–15% depending on province) plus a Canada Post handling fee of approximately CA$10 is collected by Canada Post on delivery. This is the recipient's responsibility.

Your order is protected by a branded kraft pouch and shipped in compostable mailers. These are plant-based, Seedling-certified, weather-resistant, and naturally compost within 3–6 months. Each mailer has dual adhesive strips so you can reuse it before it composts.

Yes — you will receive a tracking notification by email as soon as your order is dispatched. All UK orders are sent tracked as standard. International orders are also tracked.

All prices shown on the site are in GBP and include UK VAT where applicable. International customers may see prices adjust at checkout depending on their location.

Email hello@greendog.pet immediately with your order number and the correct address. I can update it before dispatch — but once dispatched, the carrier controls the delivery and it's much harder to redirect.

Not currently as a standard option — but if you're buying as a gift, mention it in the order notes or email me and I can make sure the packaging is extra presentable. No invoice is included inside the parcel by default.

Returns, Adjustments & Guarantees

6 questions

Standard (non-customised) pieces can be returned within 30 days of receipt for a full refund — unused, unworn, in original packaging.

Custom and personalised pieces are made specifically for your dog and are non-refundable. However, if the size isn't right, our Perfect Fit Guarantee means I'll work with you to get it right through an exchange.

This is what the Perfect Fit Guarantee is for. If your custom piece doesn't fit correctly, email me at hello@greendog.pet and we'll sort it — whether that's an exchange, an amendment or a remake.

To reduce the chance of sizing issues, use the Measuring Guide before ordering, or message me beforehand and I'll help you choose the right size.

Yes — every piece comes with lifetime hardware support.

  • Within 2 months: If hardware fails, I cover all costs — replacement parts and return shipping, no questions asked.
  • After 2 months: Replacement hardware is available at cost price plus shipping, for life — regardless of when you bought the piece.

Yes — for hardware issues, absolutely. For rope or material damage caused by normal wear or a dog chewing through it, repairs are possible on a case-by-case basis. Email hello@greendog.pet with a photo and I'll let you know what's possible.

Possibly — it depends on the product. Some pieces allow hardware swaps, others don't. Email me at hello@greendog.pet with your order details and what you'd like changed.

Email hello@greendog.pet immediately with a photo and your order number. If there is any defect in the build, I will sort it at no cost to you — replacement, repair or refund depending on what's best.

Sizing & Fit

5 questions

Use a soft tape measure around the widest part of your dog's neck. Slide two fingers underneath — the tape should be snug but not tight. That measurement is your collar size.

The Measuring Guide has full instructions, diagrams and sizing charts for every product type — collars, sighthound collars, slip leads and more.

Sighthounds have narrow heads and wide necks, which means standard collars slip off easily. For sighthounds, measure both the narrowest part of the head and the widest part of the neck — the collar needs to be sized to sit between these two measurements.

The Measuring Guide has a dedicated sighthound section. Or message me before ordering — I'll help you get it right.

Standard length for most dogs and handlers is 120cm (4ft). This gives comfortable arm length for most adult handlers with medium to large dogs.

  • 100cm: Shorter control leads, training, smaller dogs
  • 120cm: Standard — most popular choice
  • 150cm: Taller handlers or dogs that need more freedom
  • 180–200cm: Long lines for training recall

Not sure? Message me with your dog's breed and height and I'll recommend the right length.

For puppies still growing, I'd recommend our adjustable collar designs — these give a range of 5–8cm so there's room to grow. Once your puppy reaches their adult size, you can order a precisely fitted piece.

Message me with your puppy's breed and current weight and I can advise on the best approach.

Absolutely. Email hello@greendog.pet with your dog's breed, weight, and the measurement from the Measuring Guide, and I'll tell you exactly what to order. I'd rather spend five minutes helping you get the right size than have you order the wrong one.

Materials & Craftsmanship

6 questions

Every material is chosen for a specific reason — not to hit a price point, but because it performs best for your dog. Materials include:

  • BioThane®: Fully waterproof, wipe-clean, virtually indestructible
  • Paracord: Lightweight, strong, colourful — used in most collar designs
  • PPM rope: The backbone of most leads — strong, flexible, fast-drying
  • British wool: Hand-woven, breathable, naturally antimicrobial (Sheep Shed)
  • Naturally dyed cotton rope: Soft, natural, beautiful (Cotton Mill)
  • Leather: Premium natural leather, veg-tanned and naturally finished — Italian, French, British or bridle, sourced for quality
  • Hardware: Solid brass, stainless steel, nickel-plated brass or zinc alloy — all load-tested

BioThane® products are fully waterproof and the best choice for water dogs, beach walks and muddy fields. PPM rope leads are water-resistant and dry very quickly. Leather and wool products are not suitable for regular water exposure.

Most Green Dog products are vegan — BioThane, paracord, PPM rope and cotton rope products contain no animal materials. The exceptions are pieces that use natural leather straps or our British wool range.

If you want to confirm whether a specific product is vegan, check the product description or email hello@greendog.pet.

It depends on the material — different materials need different care. BioThane wipes clean with warm water. PPM and paracord can be machine-washed at 30°C. Leather needs conditioning, not soaking. Wool is hand-wash only in cool water.

The Sheep Shed is our premium range — hand-woven British wool combined with handcrafted Italian cowhide leather and solid brass hardware. It's a unique design I created: a 4-row wider weave that spreads pressure evenly for comfort, with a heritage aesthetic that stands apart from anything else on the market.

Every Sheep Shed piece is made entirely by hand in my Oxford studio — no machinery, no shortcuts.

  • Solid brass: Warmest look, develops a patina, won't rust. Best for everyday use where aesthetics matter.
  • Stainless steel: Best for water dogs — most corrosion-resistant, stays silver. Low maintenance.
  • Nickel-plated brass: Bright silver finish, more durable than zinc. Good all-rounder.
  • Zinc alloy: Budget-friendly, strong but shows cosmetic wear sooner.

Not sure? Message me with your dog's lifestyle (beach swimmer, muddy fields, dry walks) and I'll recommend the right choice.

Custom Orders & Personalisation

5 questions

Yes — email hello@greendog.pet with the colours you're considering and I'll photograph them together in the studio. I'd rather take five minutes doing that than have you receive something that doesn't look quite how you imagined.

Depending on the product, you can typically customise:

  • Rope or cord colour
  • Binding colour
  • Hardware finish (brass, steel, nickel)
  • Lead length
  • Collar size
  • End cap or stopper colour

Each product page shows the available options. Use the Globo product customiser to build your combination, or email me if you want something specific that isn't listed.

I work with a small number of carefully chosen stockists. If you're a pet shop, boutique or lifestyle retailer interested in carrying Green Dog products, email hello@greendog.pet with a brief introduction.

Yes — because every piece is made to order, I can accommodate any neck size. If your dog is outside the standard size range shown on a product page, email me the measurement and I'll confirm whether it's achievable and quote accordingly.

Yes — if you have something in mind that isn't on the site, email hello@greendog.pet with your idea. I take on a limited number of truly bespoke commissions and I'm always happy to discuss what's possible.

About Green Dog

5 questions

Green Dog is Ed Howe — one person, one workbench, one Oxford studio. Every collar, lead and accessory on this site is made by hand by Ed. Not a brand. Not a warehouse. A maker.

Green Dog started as a project to make something better than what was available — gear that was genuinely handmade, honestly priced and backed by the person who built it.

Green Dog began with a simple frustration — the dog gear available was either poorly made, overpriced for what it was, or both. Ed started making collars and leads for his own dog Boris, then for friends, then for strangers who found the work online.

The philosophy has never changed: make it properly, stand behind it, and talk to the person who bought it like a human being.

The most sustainable product is one that lasts. Green Dog pieces are built to outlast cheaper alternatives — which means less waste, less replacement, less landfill. Our packaging is compostable. Our materials are sourced from UK suppliers where possible. And the made-to-order model means nothing is manufactured speculatively and left unsold.

It's not a perfect model — no business is — but longevity and quality are the foundation of everything we make.

Life Like Charlie is a collaboration with Charlie from the UK dog community — inspired by his dogs Nala and Monkey. Every piece in the collection is designed together and 20% of profit goes directly to Hope for Podencos, the charity Charlie chose because of his own rescued Podencos.

It's genuine — not a marketing exercise. Every purchase directly funds rescue and rehoming of Podencos dogs in Spain and Portugal.
