Handmade leather dog collars and leads: cut, edged, stitched and hardware-fitted by hand in Britain. Classic and studded collars, a sighthound collar sized by breed, and leads to match.
This is a deliberately small range. Leather comes in black or chestnut brown, in three sizes. If you want to choose your own colours, that is the BioThane and paracord ranges, where picking the combination is the whole point. There is no engraving or name plate on the leather.
Sizes, before you scroll
Both leather collars come in the same three sizes. Measure around the middle of the neck, roughly halfway between the base of the skull and the top of the shoulders, with a soft tape flat against the coat.
| Size | Neck |

| Small | 10 to 13 inches |
| Medium | 11 to 15 inches |

Got a whippet, lurcher or Italian greyhound? The Cotswold Heritage leather sighthound collar is sized by breed instead, and there is a whole sighthound collection →
Natural leather, veg-tanned and naturally finished. Sourced for quality, Italian, French and British cowhide, chosen for each piece rather than a single origin claim. Everything is backed by Green Dog's twelve-month hardware guarantee.
The leather collars are bought as shown in a size I already make, which makes them ordinary purchases: you have 30 days from receipt to change your mind, unworn and in the original packaging. If the size is simply wrong, tell me before you go to the trouble of sending it back and I will adjust or remake it. There is no charge for the work either way. The postage is mine when I got the size wrong and yours when the measurement turned out not to suit your dog. Returns and the Perfect Fit Guarantee →
Leather improves with wear. The patina that develops over months of daily use is the mark of a genuinely made thing, not a defect, not a sign of age, but evidence that the material is real.
Frequently asked questions
What sizes do the leather dog collars come in?
Three sizes: Small fits a 10 to 13 inch neck, Medium 11 to 15 inches, and Large 14 to 18 inches. Both the classic and the studded collar use the same sizing. Measure around the middle of the neck, roughly halfway between the base of the skull and the top of the shoulders. The Cotswold Heritage sighthound collar is sized by breed instead, from 11 inches for an Italian Greyhound up to 18 inches for a Lurcher.
What colours are the leather dog collars available in?
Black or chestnut brown. The leather range is deliberately small and does not offer engraving or a name plate. If you want to choose your own colour combinations, the BioThane and paracord ranges are fully customisable.
What leather does Green Dog use?
Italian, French and British cowhide, chosen for each piece rather than a single origin claim. It is vegetable-tanned, which is why it develops a patina with use rather than peeling or cracking.
Will the leather collar develop a patina?
Yes. Veg-tanned leather darkens, softens and develops surface character through daily use and contact with skin oils, water and sun. After a few months the collar is unique to your dog, this is the mark of real leather, not a fault.
How do I care for a leather dog collar?
Wipe off mud with a damp cloth, let it dry naturally (not on a radiator). Condition with a small amount of natural leather balm every 3 to 6 months, more often if the dog swims. The care instructions page covers the full routine.
What are studded leather collars for?
Studs are decorative, not functional, and suit dogs whose owners want a more classic, country-style look. The studded designs are built on the same vegetable-tanned cowhide base as the classic collars, with solid brass studs hand-set into the leather.
Are Green Dog leather collars handmade?
Yes. Every leather collar is cut, edged, stitched and hardware-fitted by hand in Britain. Your choice of fittings, twelve-month hardware guarantee.
Not a supply chain. A standard. Every collar and lead is made by hand in Britain, tested, measured and finished before it is packed. You are buying from the person answerable for it.
