British wool, graded and spun in Yorkshire, and laid into rope in Britain. It arrives here as finished rope and braid, and is woven by hand. That is the whole route, and it is the reason this is worth making.
About this piece+
The Brampton Lead is made by hand in Britain from 14mm spliced British wool rope in Brampton, the charcoal grey wool. It is undyed. The colour is the colour the sheep grew. A black veg-tanned cowhide tab at the handle, solid brass hardware throughout, and an 11mm Green Dog brass disc on the O-ring at the handle, stamped once with the logo. The splice is whipped by hand and left with a tassel at the handle, the same finish as the Cotton Mill rope leads.
This is a handmade wool dog lead with a darker, more understated character than The Swaledale. The black tab works against the charcoal of the wool, a combination that ages well and looks deliberate, not accidental.
Solid brass trigger clip, brass O-ring in the handle loop, and the 11mm Green Dog brass disc that hangs from it. Solid brass throughout, not plated. Covered by Green Dog's twelve-month hardware guarantee.

Materials & construction+
Rope: 14mm British wool rope in Brampton, the charcoal grey wool, hand-spliced at the handle. It is undyed. The colour is the colour the sheep grew. British wool, graded and spun in Yorkshire, and laid into rope in Britain.
Whipping: The splice is whipped over by hand with 1mm hemp cord. Two natural fibres doing two different jobs: the wool for the body, the hemp to bind and protect the join.
Leather tab: Black veg-tanned cowhide at the handle, embossed with the Green Dog logo on one side and the name on the other.
Hardware: Solid brass trigger snap clip and O-ring, plus an 11mm Green Dog brass disc stamped once with the logo. Twelve-month hardware guarantee.
Length: 130cm from handle to clip.
Sizing & fit+
Length: 130cm from the handle loop to the clip. A standard everyday walking length that suits most dogs and most handlers.
Handling: The handle loop sits comfortably in the hand. Shorten it by taking a wrap around your wrist or dropping it over a shoulder when you need closer control.
Which dogs: 14mm is a substantial diameter, which means a full hand grip rather than a thin cord digging in. It suits medium and large dogs, and small-dog owners who want something with weight to it.
Other lengths: If you need something different, get in touch before ordering.
Changing your mind: Nothing here is built to a specification you gave me: standard length, standard colourway, made the way it is shown. That means 30 days from delivery to change your mind, more than the 14 the law asks of me. Any fault, damage or mistake on my part and I will put it right, by repair, replacement or refund, and I cover the postage. Full terms on my returns page.
Care & durability+
Wool rope: The wool is untreated, which is what gives it the handle. It also means it will felt if it gets wet and worked, so do not wash it. Let mud dry completely and brush it out with a soft brush.
Hemp whipping: Leave it alone. Wipe it if it picks up mud and let it dry naturally.
Leather tab: Wipe it with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally, not on a radiator. Condition it once or twice a year with a leather balm.
Hardware: Wipe the brass clean. It darkens into a patina with use, which is normal. Polish it lightly if you prefer it bright. Covered by Green Dog's twelve-month hardware guarantee.
Not machine washable: Nothing in this range goes in a washing machine. The wool is untreated and will felt, and the leather and the brass would not survive it either. A finished piece is only as washable as its least tolerant part.
Wool is the one material here that genuinely gets better. Customers who have had these pieces for years tell me they have improved with use, not worn out.
Questions & answers+
Is the handle spliced or whipped? Both. The rope is hand-spliced at the handle, and the splice is then whipped over by hand with 1mm hemp cord. The splice is the structure; the whipping binds and protects it.
What is the hemp cord for? It binds the splice and takes the abrasion that would otherwise land on the wool. It is 1mm, natural, and it is the detail most people never notice until it is pointed out.
Can I wash a wool lead? No. The wool is untreated and will felt, and there is a veg-tanned leather tab and brass fittings on it. Do not wash the wool rope: let it dry and brush it out instead. Wipe the tab and air dry naturally.
Does the wool go slack or fray? It softens with use without losing its structure. That is what the splice and the whipping are there for. Wool is the part of this lead that improves with age. The same rope is made for seaweed farming and has been tested submerged in seawater over 90, 180 and 270 days.
Is there a matching collar? Yes, the Brampton Wool Collar. Put the collar and the lead in the same basket and 10% comes off the lead automatically, with no code. It does not combine with a discount code.
How long will it take to arrive? Two to six working days is the making window, and it ends when the lead is dispatched. UK tracked post is one to two working days after that, so door to door is usually three to eight working days. UK tracked delivery is free over £55.
Delivery & returns+
Made to order in Britain and dispatched in 2 to 6 working days. It's worth two minutes with the measuring guide before you order. This is a size from a range I already make, so if the size turns out to be wrong, message me within 14 days. An exchange or an amendment is usually simpler than sending it back. If I got it wrong, I cover the postage both ways; if the measurement turned out not to suit your dog, the postage each way is yours. Either way, message me. I'd far rather talk it through than have you post anything. You also have 30 days from delivery to change your mind, where the law asks for 14: send it back unused and I'll refund what you paid for it and the standard delivery I charged, and the return postage is at your cost. If anything arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, that's on me: repair, replacement or refund, and I cover the postage.
