It arrives as finished British rope and braid from Sustainable Rope, founded by Kate Drury, a fourth-generation sheep farmer and a British Wool board member. It is graded at British Wool in Bradford, spun in Huddersfield, and woven by hand in Oxford. British farmers are paid properly for their wool, and it is made into a proper British material rather than bought in as the cheapest import. That is not an accident. It is what makes this worth making.
About this piece+
This is what Green Dog does at its best, not choosing between materials, but combining them. British wool woven by hand, 10mm nylon or PPM rope that performs in any weather, and BioThane® in considered colours, brought together into something that looks at home on a Cotswold lane or a city pavement.
This is the new Sheep Shed Hybrid range: the craft and texture of The Brampton and The Dingley wool collections, matched to the practical modern materials the dog world reaches for daily, rope and BioThane®, but coloured, proportioned, and assembled in a way the pet industry has never quite seen before.
The Dingley Hybrid Lead in Midnight Blue pairs with the Dingley Hunter Green collar. Midnight blue 10mm nylon or PPM rope, a hunter green BioThane® branded stopper at the handle, and 2mm Dingley braided wool whipping, every detail echoes the collar it was built to match. An 11mm Green Dog brass disc, hand-stamped by me, sits on the O-ring at the handle.
Available as clip, slip, figure of 8, or hands-free at 8 feet. Hands-free version: two BioThane® sliders, hunter green 19mm and burnt orange 19mm, each with embedded brass O-ring and brass trigger hook at both ends.
Pairs with the Dingley Wool & BioThane® Collar in Hunter Green.

Materials & construction+
Rope: Midnight blue 10mm nylon or PPM rope, the material that handles rain, mud and salt without complaint.
BioThane® stopper: Hunter green 19mm BioThane® branded stopper at the handle, matching the collar strap.
Wool whipping: 2mm Dingley braided wool, hand-whipped at the handle. Whipped, not spliced. On this rope the whipping is the join. Same Dingley wool as the collar, the ecru, undyed. My wool braid comes from Sustainable Rope, founded by Kate Drury, a fourth-generation sheep farmer and a British Wool board member. It is graded and baled at British Wool in Bradford and spun at a mill in Huddersfield.
Hardware: Solid brass trigger snap clip and O-ring. Hands-free: hunter green + burnt orange 19mm BioThane® sliders with embedded brass O-rings and trigger hooks at both ends. Twelve-month hardware guarantee.
Lengths: Clip, slip and figure of 8 at 130cm. Hands-free at 8ft.
Sizing & fit+
Standard lead (clip/slip/figure of 8): 130cm from handle to clip. The most versatile everyday walking length. Clip attaches to the collar D-ring. Slip adjusts on the dog. Figure of 8 adds a nose loop for training guidance.
Hands-free (8ft): Long enough to wear comfortably at the waist or across the body. Two BioThane® adjustable sliders with brass O-rings let you shorten or extend the active length. Brass trigger hooks at both ends.
Which style: Clip if your dog wears a collar or harness and you want the simplest thing. Slip or figure of 8 if you want control without a separate collar. Hands-free if you run, cycle or need your hands.
If you need a different length, get in touch before ordering.
Changing your mind: You are choosing from styles and lengths I build as a matter of course, not specifying something new, so the full 30 days from delivery apply where the law would give you 14. If the style turns out wrong for how you walk, message me — exchanges and amendments are available. See my returns page.
Who pays the postage on an exchange: What you pick here is a style and its length rather than a size off a measurement. If the error is mine, the postage both ways is mine too. If the style turned out not to suit how you walk, the postage each way is yours.
If it arrives faulty: Faulty, damaged or not as described is my responsibility — I will repair, replace or refund it and cover the postage.
Care & durability+
Rope: Wipe clean or hand wash gently in cool water. Air dry naturally.
BioThane® stopper and sliders: Wipe clean. Fully waterproof, no maintenance needed.
Wool whipping: The wool is untreated, which is what gives it the handle. It also means it will felt if it gets wet and worked, so do not wash it. Let mud dry completely and brush it out with a soft brush.
Hardware: Solid brass throughout. Will develop a natural patina. Covered by Green Dog's twelve-month hardware guarantee.
Not machine washable: The rope and the BioThane® would be fine. The wool whipping would not, and neither would the brass. Do not wash the wool whipping at all: let mud dry on it and brush it out with a soft brush.
Questions & answers+
Is the handle spliced? No. On the hybrid leads the handle is hand-whipped with 2mm Dingley braided wool, not spliced. The whipping is what holds and finishes the join.
Why rope rather than wool for the lead body? 10mm nylon or PPM rope shrugs off water, mud and grit in a way natural fibre does not. The wool is still there, as the whipping at the handle, which is where you actually hold the lead.
What does the hands-free version actually do? It runs at 8ft with two adjustable BioThane® sliders and a brass trigger hook at each end, so you can wear it at the waist or across the body and shorten the active length when you need the dog closer.
Can I put it through the washing machine? No. The 2mm wool whipping is untreated and will felt, and the brass fittings should not be tumbled around a drum. Do not wash the wool whipping: let it dry and brush it out instead. Wipe the rope and the BioThane® down with a damp cloth.
How long will it take to arrive? 2–6 working days. Everything is made to order in Oxford, not picked off a shelf. Free UK tracked shipping over £55.
Delivery & returns+
Made to order in Oxford and dispatched in 2–6 working days. Free UK tracked shipping on orders over £55, and international shipping is available at checkout. It's worth two minutes with the measuring guide before you order. This is a size from a range I already make, so if the size turns out to be wrong, message me within 14 days — an exchange or an amendment is usually simpler than sending it back. If I got it wrong, I cover the postage both ways; if the measurement turned out not to suit your dog, the postage each way is yours. Either way, message me — I'd far rather talk it through than have you post anything. You also have 30 days from delivery to change your mind, where the law asks for 14: send it back unused and I'll refund what you paid for it and the standard delivery I charged, and the return postage is at your cost. If anything arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, that's on me — repair, replacement or refund, and I cover the postage.
The colour combinations of this lead give it a unique look along with the touch of wool and the hands free design is so useful - Amazing lead!
