How I work

  • Hardware is guaranteed for twelve months. If a buckle, clip or ring fails in that time, send it back and I’ll repair or replace it, and I cover the postage.
  • After that, send it back anyway, however old it is. I’ll replace the worn parts at cost and tell you what it needs before I touch it. It comes back cleaned, checked and boxed.
  • If it isn’t adjustable, I check your measurements with you before I make it.
  • Message the shop and it’s me, Ed, who replies. Usually within a few hours.
  • Custom pieces aren’t refundable for a change of mind. If it does not fit when it arrives, tell me and I will adjust or remake it. If I got the size wrong, I cover the postage both ways. If the measurement turned out not to suit your dog, the postage is yours.

Sizing & measuring+

Who it is for: Small and toy breeds with a neck between 8 and 13 inches. Miniature Dachshunds, Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers, Pomeranians, Maltese, Toy Poodles, Papillons, Miniature Pinschers, Shih Tzus, the smaller Jack Russells and Bichons, and puppies of larger breeds.

Measure, do not guess by breed: Necks vary far more than breed averages suggest. Two Chihuahuas can be two sizes apart. Run a soft tape around the middle of the neck, where the collar sits, snug but not tight. Two fingers should sit comfortably underneath, and on a small dog that is a genuinely small gap, so take the measurement twice.

Choosing a size: Each size is a range and it fits that whole range. Pick the range your measurement sits inside. If you land between two, take the larger one. Do not add anything to your measurement.

Available sizes: 8 to 10 inches, 9 to 11 inches, 10 to 12 inches, 11 to 13 inches.

If your dog measures over 13 inches: The full-size Custom Hybrid starts at 9 to 12 inches and runs to 23 to 26 inches, in a wider 3-row or 4-row weave.

Puppies: Buy for the neck the dog has now. A small breed puppy moves through the ranges quickly, and an oversized collar does not sit where it should while you wait.

Hardware & construction+

Wool weave: Dingley, the ecru wool, in a fishtail 2-row weave using 2mm wool braid. Roughly 20mm wide, narrower and lighter than the Classic's 34mm weave, from the same undyed wool. The colour is the colour the sheep grew. British wool, graded and spun in Yorkshire, and laid into rope in Britain.

BioThane® strap: 16mm BioThane® BETA, fully waterproof and odour-resistant, in the colour you choose from twenty. It is the narrow strap, scaled to a small neck.

Collar keeper: 9mm BioThane® in the colour you choose from nineteen. The keeper is the loop that holds the loose end of the strap flat against the collar.

Hardware: Buckle, D-ring and double cap rivets, each in the finish you choose: gold, nickel, black metal or gun-metal on the buckle, and brass, nickel, black metal or gun-metal on the D-ring and rivets. Twelve-month hardware guarantee.

Green Dog disc: An 11mm Green Dog brass disc on the D-ring, stamped once with the logo.

Sizes: Four, from 8 to 13 inches, for small and toy breeds. One weave, the fishtail 2-row, which is the lightest in the range.

Care & durability+

Wool weave: The wool is untreated, which is what gives it the handle. It also means it will felt if it gets wet and worked, so do not wash it. Let mud dry completely and brush it out with a soft brush.

BioThane® strap and keeper: Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Rinse under running water after heavy mud. Fully waterproof and odour-resistant, no conditioning needed. On a small dog that walks low to the ground, this is the half of the collar that takes the mud.

Hardware: Wipe clean. Brass develops a natural patina over time; the plated finishes stay as they are. Covered by Green Dog's twelve-month hardware guarantee.

Not machine washable: The BioThane® is wipe-clean and the metal is fine, but the wool is untreated and will felt if it gets wet and worked. So the collar as a whole is not a washable one: wipe the BioThane®, and let mud dry on the wool and brush it out. Ecru shows dirt more readily than a dark wool, which is worth knowing if your dog is close to the ground.

Wool is the one material here that genuinely gets better. Customers who have had these pieces for years tell me they have improved with use, not worn out.

Custom Dingley Mini Hybrid Collar | Small Breed Wool & BioThane® | Design Your Own

The Dingley Mini Hybrid, built to your specification, for the smallest necks. A hand-woven ecru British wool collar body in a fishtail 2-row weave, roughly 20mm wide, over a 16mm BioThane® adjustable strap. The wool gives it the character. The strap wipes clean after a wet walk and does not hold smells.

It is the lightest build in the wool range, which is the whole point on a small dog. Nothing is woven until you order.

Which dogs it fits

Four sizes, 8 to 13 inches. The wool

Dingley is the ecru. It is undyed: the colour is the colour the sheep grew. British wool, graded and spun in Yorkshire, and laid into rope in Britain. The Mini is woven in a fishtail 2-row weave from 2mm wool braid, roughly 20mm wide, rather than the Classic's 34mm weave. Narrower and lighter, and the same wool.

What comes as standard

An 11mm Green Dog brass disc on the D-ring, stamped once with the logo. Twelve-month hardware guarantee.

Living with it

The BioThane® strap and keeper wipe clean with a damp cloth and rinse under a tap after heavy mud. The wool is untreated, which is what gives it the handle, and it will felt if it gets wet and worked, so do not wash it. Let mud dry and brush it out with a soft brush. Ecru shows dirt more readily than a dark wool, which is worth knowing if your dog is close to the ground.
