How to measure: Run a soft tape around the middle of your dog's neck, roughly halfway between the base of the skull and the top of the shoulders, which is where a collar sits. Snug but not tight, and two fingers should sit comfortably under the finished collar.

Leather strap: Wipe mud off with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally, not on a radiator. Condition it once or twice a year with a leather balm. That is all it needs.

Not machine washable: No. The cotton would probably survive it; the veg-tanned leather strap and the brass fittings would not. A finished collar is only as washable as its least tolerant part.
