Cotton Mill Rope Dog Lead in Harvest Yellow

Rope: 12mm twisted cotton rope, 100% natural fibre. The cotton is milled and dyed in Yorkshire, and laid into rope in North Yorkshire. Hand-spliced at the handle in Britain.

Binding: Chestnut brown natural yarn, hand-bound at the handle splice and the O-ring junction.

Leather tab: Brown veg-tanned cowhide tab at the handle, embossed with the Green Dog logo on one side and the name on the other. It is a design detail, not a structural part of the lead.

Hardware: Solid brass trigger snap clip, solid brass O-ring and an 11mm Green Dog brass disc stamped once with the logo, plus a tassel at the handle. Twelve-month hardware guarantee.

Handling: The handle loop sits comfortably in the hand. Shorten it by taking a wrap around your wrist or dropping it over a shoulder when you want the dog closer.

Which dogs: 12mm cotton fills the hand rather than cutting into it. It is used daily by dogs of every size.

Changing your mind: You have 30 days from delivery to decide against this lead, against a legal minimum of 14. It leaves my bench at the standard length in a set colourway, so ordering it commits you to nothing. Cotton: Hand wash lightly in cool water if it needs it. Air dry naturally. Never tumble dry and never on a radiator. The twist tightens when the rope is wet and eases again as it dries; that is the cotton behaving normally.

Leather tab: Wipe it with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally, not on a radiator. Condition it once or twice a year with a leather balm.

Hardware: Wipe the brass clean. It darkens into a patina with use, which is normal. Polish it lightly if you prefer it bright. Covered by Green Dog's twelve-month hardware guarantee.

Not machine washable: Not the whole lead, no. The cotton would survive a gentle hand wash, but the veg-tanned leather tab and the brass fittings will not take a machine. A finished piece is only as washable as its least tolerant part.

Is 12mm cotton rope strong enough for a large dog? Yes. It is a substantial rope and it is used daily by dogs of all sizes. The handle is hand-spliced, which is the strongest way to finish a rope of this kind.

Why is the binding a different colour to the rope? It gives the lead its layered look and it reinforces the two points that take the most handling. Chestnut brown against harvest yellow is a warm pairing rather than a loud one.

Can I wash it? Not in a machine. The cotton alone would take a gentle hand wash in cool water, but the veg-tanned leather tab and the brass fittings will not tolerate a drum. Air dry naturally, never on a radiator.
