British wool provenance
The wool in this piece matters.

British wool, graded and spun in Yorkshire, and laid into rope in Britain. It arrives here as finished rope and braid, and is woven by hand. That is the whole route, and it is the reason this is worth making.

100% British wool, graded and spun in Yorkshire, and laid into rope in Britain.
About this piece

The Dingley Mini is made by hand in Britain for the smallest breeds: Miniature Dachshunds, Jack Russells, Chihuahuas, Miniature Pinschers and similar toy dogs. Every dimension is scaled down with the same care given to the full-size collar.

Built from a fishtail 2-row weave using 2mm British Dingley wool braid, lighter and narrower than the Classic collar, but strong enough for daily wear. Backed by a slim 16mm natural leather strap with a 15mm solid brass buckle, and an 11mm Green Dog brass disc on the D-ring, stamped once with the logo.

Four sizes. Size exchanges and amendments available. Lightweight enough for the most delicate neck, made well enough to last for years.

What it is made from

  • British wool, graded and spun in Yorkshire, and laid into rope in Britain. Dingley is the ecru, in a fishtail 2-row weave from 2mm braid
  • Slim 16mm brown natural leather strap, naturally finished, or choose from six leather colours
  • 15mm solid brass buckle, and an 11mm Green Dog brass disc on the D-ring, stamped once with the logo
  • Four sizes from 8 to 13 inches, for small and toy breeds. Wool weave width approximately 20mm, 1cm thick

Also available: Dingley Classic and Dingley Sighthound. Add the Swaledale Wool Lead to the same basket and 10% comes off the lead automatically, with no code. It does not combine with a discount code, so you take whichever is worth more.

Made to order in two to six working days. UK tracked post is one to two working days after that, and it is free over £55. Rated 4.99 out of 5 from over 200 reviews.

Materials & construction

Wool weave: Dingley, the ecru wool, in a fishtail 2-row weave, using 2mm wool braid. It is undyed. The colour is the colour the sheep grew. Approximately 20mm wide and 1cm thick, lighter and narrower than the Classic. British wool, graded and spun in Yorkshire, and laid into rope in Britain.

Leather strap: Slim 16mm natural leather, naturally finished. Brown as standard, with five other leather colours to choose from.

Hardware: 15mm solid brass buckle and an 11mm Green Dog brass disc stamped once with the logo. Twelve-month hardware guarantee.

Sizes: Four, from 8 to 13 inches, for small and toy breeds.

Scaled down with the same care as the full-size collar, and made to order in Britain.

Sizing & fit

Who it is for: Miniature Dachshunds, Jack Russells, Chihuahuas, Miniature Pinschers and similar toy breeds.

How to measure: Run a soft tape around the widest point of the neck, snug but not tight. Two fingers should sit comfortably underneath. On a small dog that is a genuinely small gap, so take the measurement twice.

Choosing a size: Each size is a range. Pick the range your measurement sits inside; if you land between two, take the larger one.

Available sizes: 8 to 10 inches, 9 to 11 inches, 10 to 12 inches, 11 to 13 inches.

Puppies: Buy for the neck the dog has now. Small breeds move through the ranges quickly, and an oversized collar does not sit properly while you wait for the dog to catch up.

If it is wrong: Message me. Size exchanges and amendments are available.

Changing your mind: Picking a size range and a strap colour from my standard lists does not make this a bespoke piece, so you keep the full 30 days from delivery rather than the 14 the law sets as the minimum. Toy breed necks are easy to get wrong by half an inch, so read the measuring guide or message me before you order. If the size turns out wrong, size exchanges and amendments are available. Full detail on my returns page.

Who pays the postage on an exchange: If I got it wrong, I cover the postage both ways. If the neck measurement turned out not to suit the dog, each way is yours.

Faulty or damaged: Anything faulty, damaged or not as described is my responsibility, and I will repair, replace or refund it and pay the postage.

Care & durability

Wool: The wool is untreated, which is what gives it the handle. It also means it will felt if it gets wet and worked, so do not wash it. Let mud dry completely and brush it out with a soft brush.

Leather strap: Wipe mud off with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally, not on a radiator. Condition it once or twice a year with a leather balm. That is all it needs.

Hardware: Wipe the buckle clean with a dry cloth. Covered by Green Dog's twelve-month hardware guarantee.

Not machine washable: Nothing in this range goes in a washing machine. The wool is untreated and will felt, and the leather and the metalwork would not survive it either. A finished piece is only as washable as its least tolerant part.

Wool is the one material here that genuinely gets better. Customers who have had these pieces for years tell me they have improved with use, not worn out.

Questions & answers

Is this the same as the Classic Dingley, just smaller? Same wool, different build. The Mini is a fishtail 2-row weave from 2mm wool braid at roughly 20mm wide, against a 34mm wool weave on the Classic, and the leather strap is a matching slim 16mm. It is a lighter collar, which is the point.

Is it light enough for a Miniature Dachshund? Yes. It is built for exactly that kind of dog. The 2-row weave and the 16mm leather strap are the lightest combination in the wool range.

Can I wash it? No. The wool is untreated and will felt, and there is leather and solid brass on it. Do not wash the wool: let it dry and brush it out instead. Wipe the leather and air dry naturally.

What size should I buy for a puppy? The size that fits now. Each size is a range so there is some room, but a collar bought two sizes big will not sit where it should. Size exchange is included if you get it wrong.

Is there a matching lead? The Swaledale Wool Lead, a different British wool in the same ecru white. Put the collar and the lead in the same basket and 10% comes off the lead automatically, with no code. It does not combine with a discount code.

How long will it take to arrive? Two to six working days is the making window, and it ends when the collar is dispatched. UK tracked post is one to two working days after that, so door to door is usually three to eight working days. UK tracked delivery is free over £55.

Delivery & returns

Made to order in Britain and dispatched in 2 to 6 working days. It's worth two minutes with the measuring guide before you order. This is a size from a range I already make, so if the size turns out to be wrong, message me within 14 days. An exchange or an amendment is usually simpler than sending it back. If I got it wrong, I cover the postage both ways; if the measurement turned out not to suit your dog, the postage each way is yours. Either way, message me. I'd far rather talk it through than have you post anything. You also have 30 days from delivery to change your mind, where the law asks for 14: send it back unused and I'll refund what you paid for it and the standard delivery I charged, and the return postage is at your cost. If anything arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, that's on me: repair, replacement or refund, and I cover the postage.
