British wool provenance
The wool in this piece matters.

It arrives as finished British rope and braid from Sustainable Rope, founded by Kate Drury, a fourth-generation sheep farmer and a British Wool board member. It is graded at British Wool in Bradford, spun in Huddersfield, and woven by hand in Oxford. British farmers are paid properly for their wool, and it is made into a proper British material rather than bought in as the cheapest import. That is not an accident. It is what makes this worth making.

4th generation sheep farmer. Kate Drury founded Sustainable Rope, who make the British wool rope and braid I buy.
About this piece

The Brampton is made by hand in Green Dog's Oxford studio from British Brampton wool. Brampton is the charcoal grey wool, undyed. The colour is the colour the sheep grew. Woven into a structured collar body, backed by a black premium natural leather strap and finished with solid brass hardware and an 11mm Green Dog brass disc, hand-stamped by me, on the D-ring. Now choose from 6 new leather colours.

This is a handmade British wool dog collar for daily wear. The wool weave holds its shape through outdoor use and wet weather, sitting comfortably against the neck all day.

6 sizes. Size exchanges and amendments available. Checked before it leaves the studio.

What it's made from

  • British Brampton wool, the charcoal grey, hand-woven collar body
  • Premium natural leather strap, black, naturally finished, 19mm wide or choose from 6 new leather colours
  • Solid brass roller buckle and D-ring
  • 11mm hand-stamped Green Dog brass disc on the D-ring
  • 6 sizes from 9-26" | Wool weave width: 34mm, 1cm thick

Pairs with the Brampton Wool Lead, the same Brampton wool and solid brass hardware.

Materials & construction

Wool weave: Brampton, the charcoal grey wool, hand-woven into the collar body in Green Dog's Oxford studio. It is undyed. The colour is the colour the sheep grew. The wool weave is 34mm wide and 1cm thick. My wool braid comes from Sustainable Rope, founded by Kate Drury, a fourth-generation sheep farmer and a British Wool board member. It is graded and baled at British Wool in Bradford and spun at a mill in Huddersfield.

Leather strap: Premium natural leather, naturally finished, 19mm wide. Black as standard, with five other leather colours to choose from.

Hardware: Solid brass roller buckle and D-ring, plus the Green Dog brass-stamped logo tag. Twelve-month hardware guarantee.

Sizes: Six, from 9″ to 26″.

Made by hand, to order, one at a time. Nothing here is pre-made.

Sizing & fit

How to measure: Run a soft tape around the widest point of your dog’s neck, snug but not tight. Two fingers should sit comfortably under the finished collar.

Choosing a size: Each size is a range, not a single figure, so there is adjustment either side of your measurement. Pick the range your measurement sits inside. If you land between two, take the larger one.

Available sizes: 9–12″ | 11–14″ | 14–17″ | 17–20″ | 20–23″ | 23–26″

Puppies: Buy for the neck the dog has now. A collar bought oversized to grow into does not sit where it should in the meantime.

If it is wrong: Message me — size exchanges and amendments are available.

Changing your mind: This is the everyday Brampton, bought as shown in a size and a strap colour I already make, so you keep a full 30 days from delivery to change your mind rather than the 14 the law sets. If the fit is not right when it arrives, message me — size exchanges and amendments are available. Full terms on my returns page.

Who pays the postage on an exchange: If the mistake is mine — I have made up the wrong range, or fitted the wrong strap colour — I cover the postage both ways. If the measurement simply turned out not to suit your dog, the postage each way is yours.

If it arrives faulty: Anything faulty, damaged or not as described is on me. I will repair it, replace it or refund it, and I cover the postage.

Care & durability

Wool: The wool is untreated, which is what gives it the handle. It also means it will felt if it gets wet and worked, so do not wash it. Let mud dry completely and brush it out with a soft brush.

Leather strap: Wipe mud off with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally, not on a radiator. Condition it once or twice a year with a leather balm. That is all it needs.

Hardware: Wipe the brass clean. It darkens into a patina with use, which is normal. Polish it lightly if you prefer it bright. Covered by Green Dog's twelve-month hardware guarantee.

Not machine washable: Nothing in this range goes in a washing machine. The wool is untreated and will felt, and the leather and the brass would not survive it either. A finished piece is only as washable as its least tolerant part.

Wool is the one material here that genuinely gets better. Customers who have had these pieces for years tell me they have improved with use, not worn out.

Questions & answers

Can I machine wash this collar? No. The wool is untreated and will felt in a machine, and the leather strap and brass would not take it either. Do not wash the wool at all: let it dry and brush it out instead. Wipe the leather.

Is Brampton wool grey, or is that the leather? The wool is charcoal grey. The leather strap is black as standard, and there are five other leather colours if you want the strap to do something different.

How wide is the collar? The wool weave is 34mm wide and 1cm thick. The leather strap behind it is 19mm.

Does the wool wear out? It is the part that improves. Customers who have had Brampton collars for years say they have got better with use. The leather softens too. The hardware is the part carrying a twelve-month guarantee.

How long will it take to arrive? 2–6 working days. Everything is made to order in Oxford, not picked off a shelf. Free UK tracked shipping over £55.
