British wool provenance
The wool in this piece matters.

It arrives as finished British rope and braid from Sustainable Rope, founded by Kate Drury, a fourth-generation sheep farmer and a British Wool board member. It is graded at British Wool in Bradford, spun in Huddersfield, and woven by hand in Oxford. British farmers are paid properly for their wool, and it is made into a proper British material rather than bought in as the cheapest import. That is not an accident. It is what makes this worth making.

4th generation sheep farmer. Kate Drury founded Sustainable Rope, who make the British wool rope and braid I buy.
About this piece

The Brampton Sighthound is made by hand in Green Dog's Oxford studio specifically for dogs with long, elegant necks, whippets, greyhounds, lurchers, Italian greyhounds, and similar breeds. The collar uses a 4-row wider weave to distribute pressure evenly, sitting flush against the neck without slipping or bunching.

Woven from British Brampton wool, the charcoal grey and undyed, backed by a black premium natural leather strap (19mm wide) or choose from 6 new leather colours, and finished with solid brass buckle and hardware. The black leather gives The Brampton Sighthound a cleaner, more understated look.

6 sizes. Size exchanges and amendments available. Handmade to order and checked before dispatch.

Materials & construction

Wool weave: Brampton, the charcoal grey wool, in a 4-row wider weave, hand-woven in Oxford. It is undyed. The colour is the colour the sheep grew. The wool weave is 43mm wide and 1cm thick. My wool braid comes from Sustainable Rope, founded by Kate Drury, a fourth-generation sheep farmer and a British Wool board member. It is graded and baled at British Wool in Bradford and spun at a mill in Huddersfield.

Leather strap: Premium natural leather, naturally finished, 19mm wide. Black as standard, with five other leather colours to choose from.

Hardware: Solid brass roller buckle and D-ring, plus the Green Dog brass-stamped logo tag. Twelve-month hardware guarantee.

Sizes: Six, from 9″ to 26″.

Sizing & fit

Who it is for: Whippets, greyhounds, lurchers, Italian greyhounds and other dogs with long, slender necks.

Why the wider weave: At 43mm the wool weave spreads pressure across more of the neck rather than concentrating it in a narrow band, and it sits flush instead of bunching.

How to measure: Measure the widest point of the neck, snug but not tight. Two fingers should sit under the finished collar. On a sighthound, check the measurement against the head too, because the neck and skull are closer in size than on most breeds.

Choosing a size: Each size is a range, so there is adjustment either side of your measurement. If you land between two, take the larger one.

Available sizes: 9–12″ | 11–14″ | 14–17″ | 17–20″ | 20–23″ | 23–26″

If it is wrong: Message me — size exchanges and amendments are available.

Changing your mind: The size ranges and the strap colours are both mine to offer rather than yours to specify, so ordering is an ordinary purchase with a full 30 days from delivery to change your mind, against the 14 the law requires. Sighthound necks are the ones I most often see measured short, so read the measuring guide or message me before you order. If the size turns out wrong, size exchanges and amendments are available. See my returns page.

Who pays the postage on an exchange: Where the error is mine, I pay the postage both ways. Where the measurement turned out not to suit your dog, each way is yours.

Faulty or damaged: If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on me — I will repair, replace or refund it and cover the postage.

Care & durability

Wool: The wool is untreated, which is what gives it the handle. It also means it will felt if it gets wet and worked, so do not wash it. Let mud dry completely and brush it out with a soft brush.

Leather strap: Wipe mud off with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally, not on a radiator. Condition it once or twice a year with a leather balm. That is all it needs.

Hardware: Wipe the brass clean. It darkens into a patina with use, which is normal. Polish it lightly if you prefer it bright. Covered by Green Dog's twelve-month hardware guarantee.

Not machine washable: Nothing in this range goes in a washing machine. The wool is untreated and will felt, and the leather and the brass would not survive it either. A finished piece is only as washable as its least tolerant part.

Wool is the one material here that genuinely gets better. Customers who have had these pieces for years tell me they have improved with use, not worn out.

Questions & answers

How is this different from the Classic Brampton? The width. This uses a 4-row wool weave at 43mm across, against 34mm on the Classic. Everything else (the wool, the leather strap, the solid brass fittings) is the same.

Will it come off over my lurcher's head? Measure the widest point of the neck and take the range it falls inside. Two fingers underneath, no more. Because sighthound necks and heads measure close together, it is worth checking both.

Is it a martingale? No. It is a buckle collar with a solid brass roller buckle and D-ring. Security comes from a correct fit and a wide panel, not from a tightening action.

Can it go in the wash? No. Untreated wool felts, and there is a leather strap and brass on it. Do not wash the wool: let it dry and brush it out instead. Wipe the leather and air dry naturally.

How long will it take to arrive? 2–6 working days. Everything is made to order in Oxford, not picked off a shelf. Free UK tracked shipping over £55.
