British wool provenance
The wool in this piece matters.

It comes from British heritage breed farmers — wool that is milled in Yorkshire and woven by hand in Oxford. The farmers who raise these animals are paid significantly above what the commodity market would offer. That is not an accident. It is what makes this worth making.

About this piece

The Dingley Sighthound is made by hand in Green Dog's Oxford studio specifically for dogs with long, slender necks — whippets, greyhounds, lurchers, Italian greyhounds, and similar breeds. The collar uses a 4-row wider weave to distribute pressure evenly across the neck, giving comfort without slipping.

Woven from British Dingley heritage wool, backed by a premium natural leather strap (19–20mm wide), and finished with solid brass buckle and hardware. The wider profile of the wool weave is the key detail — it sits flush against a sighthound's longer neck without bunching or rubbing.

Solid brass buckle, D-ring, and the Green Dog brass-stamped logo tag. Size exchange included. Handmade to order in Oxford.

What it's made from

  • British Dingley heritage wool — 4-row wider weave for sighthound necks
  • Premium natural leather strap — veg-tanned, chestnut brown, 19–20mm wide
  • Solid brass roller buckle and D-ring
  • Green Dog brass-stamped logo tag
  • 7 sizes from 11–25.5"

Also available: Dingley Standard Collar and Dingley Mini Collar.

Materials & construction

Wool weave: British Dingley heritage wool, woven in a 4-row wider pattern specifically proportioned for sighthound necks. Naturally resilient and comfortable against skin.

Leather strap: Premium natural leather, veg-tanned and naturally finished. Chestnut brown, 19–20mm wide. Softens and develops a patina with wear.

Hardware: Solid brass roller buckle and D-ring, brass-stamped Green Dog logo tag. Solid brass throughout. Lifetime Hardware Promise applies.

Sizing & fit

How to measure for a sighthound collar: Measure both the widest point of your dog's neck AND the narrowest point (behind the ears). The collar needs to be large enough to slip over the head but snug enough not to slip off during a walk — typically a 2–4cm difference between these measurements.

If in doubt about sizing, message us with both measurements before ordering. Getting sighthound sizing right matters more than standard collars.

Available sizes: S: 11–13.5" | M: 13–15.5" | ML: 15–17.5" | L: 17–19.5" | XL: 19–21.5" | XXL: 21–23.5" | XXXL: 23–25.5"

The 4-row wider weave sits flush against the neck for comfort and even pressure distribution — important for the anatomy of a sighthound's longer neck.

Care & durability

Wool section: Spot clean with a damp cloth. For heavier soiling, hand wash gently in cool water using a wool-safe detergent. Lay flat to dry naturally — never tumble dry or expose to direct heat. The wool may felt very slightly with heavy washing; this adds character rather than reducing it.

Leather strap: Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth. Condition occasionally with a natural leather balm to keep the strap supple. Avoid prolonged soaking or machine washing.

Brass hardware: Will develop a natural patina over time. This is intentional — solid brass ages beautifully. Polish lightly with a brass cloth if you prefer a brighter finish.

Hardware is covered under Green Dog's Lifetime Hardware Promise — fully covered within 2 months, replacement at cost plus postage thereafter.

Questions & answers

What makes this a sighthound collar? The 4-row wider weave distributes pressure more evenly across a long, slender neck. It sits flush rather than bunching, and the wider profile prevents the collar sliding forward over the head.

Which breeds does this suit? Whippets, lurchers, greyhounds, Italian greyhounds, salukis, borzoi, and any dog with a longer, more slender neck than the breed average.

How do I size a sighthound collar? Measure both the widest point of the neck AND the narrowest point behind the ears. Message us with both measurements if you're unsure — sighthound sizing matters more than standard collars.

Is there a matching lead? The Swaledale Wool Lead uses the same heritage wool and solid brass hardware — a natural pair.

How long will it take? 2–6 working days. Handmade to order in Oxford. Free UK tracked shipping over £55.
