At Green Dog, every collar and lead is handmade with care using high-quality materials, but no dog accessory is indestructible. Dogs are strong, curious, adventurous and occasionally chaotic — so responsible use is essential.

This page explains how to use your Green Dog products safely and what to expect from natural wear and tear.

1. Inspect Before Every Walk

Before using any collar or lead, please check for:

  • Frayed rope or stitching
  • Cracks or chips in hardware
  • Loose end caps
  • Chewing damage
  • Any part that feels weakened

If you notice damage or something doesn’t feel right, stop using the product immediately and email me at hello@greendog.pet. I’m always happy to help or advise.

2. Responsible Use & Handling

Although I use durable materials such as BioThane®, paracord, PPM rope, British wool, cotton rope and premium hardware, all dog accessories have limitations.

Please keep in mind:

  • Strong pulling or lunging can place significant stress on any collar or lead
  • Chewing will weaken materials quickly
  • Rope, leather and natural fibres all change over time
  • Extreme weather, salt water, mud, grit and rough play can shorten a product’s lifespan

Using the correct size and checking your gear regularly is essential for safety and comfort.

3. Liability & Safety Expectations

Green Dog cannot be held responsible for:

  • Injuries caused by dogs pulling, slipping, lunging or reacting
  • Damage caused by chewing, extreme force or improper handling
  • Wear resulting from normal use over time
  • Misuse of products, incorrect sizing or failure to inspect before use

It’s your responsibility to use good judgement when walking and handling your dog.
If you’re unsure about sizing, suitability or hardware strength, please feel free to ask for guidance.

4. Repair & Renew (Optional Support)

If your collar or lead becomes damaged — whether I made it or not — I offer a Repair & Renew service.
This includes:

  • Hardware replacements
  • Clip repairs
  • Rope or stitching restoration
  • Leather care or part replacement

Repairs typically range from £10–£100, depending on complexity. It’s a sustainable and cost-efficient way to keep your dog’s accessories going longer.
